Steve Jorgensen donated this vintage banjo uke. The earliest known banjo ukes were built around 1917. The instrument achieved its greatest popularity in the 1920s and 1930s. As you see in the photos, it is a four-stringed musical instrument with a small banjo-type body and a fretted ukulele neck.
This instrument had a relationship with Phi Kappa Sigma (NYU Chapter). PKS is described as “an international all-male college secret society and social fraternity. Commonly known as “Skulls”, the name is inspired by the skull and crossbones on the fraternity's badge and coat of arms. The face has notes, signatures, and skull and crossbones as far back as 1929.
