In your hands, you hold a print that was hand-carved, hand-inked and hand-printed. The process is called "relief printing" where you begin with a "block" (made of wood, linoleum, etc) and use gauges (carving tools) to carve away the areas the artist doesn't want ink applied to the paper. Once the image is carved out, ink is applied with rollers (brayers), paper is laid on the block and they are put through an etching press that squeezes them together. Once removed, the paper has a mirror image of the image on the block. The paper is then hung to dry for a day or so before being editioned (signed & numbered).
It is my hope that this image reminds you of the awe found in the wild places of the world and inspires you to feel connected to the beauty of the Colorado Plateau.Rebekka Anderson is the artist behind Erosion Studio. From a young age she was drawn to wildness and adventure that lead her to work as a Ranger for the National Park Service for nearly 20 years.
